Category: Accessibility
Web Industry Professionals Association (WIPA), Vision Australia and the Web Accessibility Network for Australian Universities
Version 2 of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0) is about to be released, introducing some changes in the recommendations for website accessibility. WIPA, Vision Australia and the Web Accessibility Network for Australian Universities (WANAU) are presenting this half-day seminar to help the web community understand WCAG 2.0 and prepare sites with improved accessibility.
- Roger Hudson and Brian Hardy will provide an overview of WCAG 2.0 and the compliance process. They will describe the practical differences to WCAG 1.0 and the benefits to be gained by adopting WCAG 2.0.
An important change with WCAG 2.0 is the move to technology neutrality and the introduction of the concept of "Accessibility Supported Technologies". Although there are no indications at this stage which technologies are "Accessibility Supported", it is expected that only those technologies that are nominated will be able to be used to satisfy WCAG 2.0 Success Criteria.
- Representatives from Adobe will talk about the importance of making Flash accessible and how this can be done.
- Vision Australia will discuss how to make accessible PDFs that can bring benefits to screen reader users.
- Jamie Kelly from Vision Australia will demonstrate how screen reader users can access and use well made PDF material and accessible Flash.
Afternoon tea will be provided.
